Private Residence

This mid-century modern residence on Long Island’s North Shore presented an interesting design situation. Space was very limited, but there were remarkable opportunities created by the site’s proximity to the ocean. The final design provides for abundant planted areas as well as spaces for entertaining and relaxing.

  • We made the most of the site's available space to create several distinct outdoor rooms, including this one under the pergola.
  • Coming around the corner from the north side of the house, the view is framed (but not blocked) by the new pergola.
  • We kept the front yard simple, to match surrounding yards. However, there are numerous details that introduce the design concept.
